An operation to destroy seismic and electric detonators consisted of gathering bunches of 20
seismic detonators around an electric detonator with adhesive tape with the aim of destroying
them by blasting according to a dedicated procedure. With his left hand, an operator was holding a seismic detonator with its 1.4 cap protection on a table. With his right hand, he was about to cut the wires with a knife when it detonated. The operator suffered injuries to his thumb, middle finger and, to a lesser extent, his index finger, but no injuries to the palm of his hand. No injuries by shrapnels except one shrapnel at the trousers level. The other operators, who were 2 meters away, were not affected by the detonation regarding noise effect and shrapnels.
